Updated: Mar 7, 2022

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized on the campus of Siliguri Boys’ High School on the 6th of March, 2022 by Boys’91, an alumni association of the students of Siliguri Boys' High School, who appeared for the Std X level exam in the year 1991. The camp was supported by Blood Point, a social organisation that help people during blood emergency by providing them with blood donors and with Siliguri Lions Blood Centre.

Sri. Utpal Dutta, Headmaster of Siliguri Boys' High School, and ex-teacher of the school, Sri. Sukhen Ghosh was also present as a special guest of honour. Members of Boys'91 and others donated a total of 56 units of blood. Social organisations such as 'Ei Prajanma,' 'Bidhan Market Bebshayee Samiti,' and 'Bangla Pakkya' were also present to promote and support the cause of blood donation. The initiative of Boys'91 provided hope for resolving India's serious problem of acute blood shortage. India is facing a 3 million-unit blood shortage. While speaking to people at the camp, Sri. Manash Dhar, immediate ex-Vice President, raised awareness about the shortage of blood and why we must donate blood every year to help those in need. The school's headmaster, Sri. Utpal Dutta congratulated the organisation on its efforts and promised to provide Boys'91 with any assistance they require in their engagement in the social cause. "Donation of blood is very critical and crucial for saving the lives of many patients and those who have met with accidents," said Sri Sukhen Ghosh. He added, "It is a great service or contribution to society and the people who live in it." He was also impressed by the members' devotion to the school. "Their love for their school is so strong that they organise all of their social events on school grounds," he continued, "which is very appealing to me."

Boys’91 was also felicitated by Blood Bank and Siliguri Terai Lions Blood Centre for their effort in organising the camp.
